The 9th "Ruta del Sol" regatta, which is part of the Spanish Southern Deep-Sea Yachting Championship and the Andalusian Deep-Sea Yachting Championship, is expected to draw twenty to forty yachts. It's a cross-ocean regatta coinciding with the 6th International Yachting Week, one of the most important sailing events in Morocco.

Weighing anchors on Saturday, July 25 at 10:00 a.m., boats will sail across the Mediterranean for eight to fourteen hours, depending on the weather. Carefully organised by the Fuengirola Yachting Club, the regatta gathers yachts from all Mediterranean countries, coinciding with Throne Day celebrations in Morocco.

Sports and tourism come together in this regatta, whose importance in the Mediterranean region can't be played down. Participating yachts must make their reservations paying 50 euros. All the information will be available at the Fuengirola Yachting Club on July 1.

Arantza: Cantabrian cuisine in Benalmádena by office Comment (0)

The restaurant serves typical mountain food alongside innovative dishes.

restaurante_Arantza_g

Run by Arantza Puente, a cook from Santander and daughter of a well-known Cantabrian restaurateur, the Arantza restaurant was opened years ago. Drawing inspiration from the typical gastronomy of the mountains to create her dishes, Ms Puente looks for quality in the ingredients to be used in her kitchen.

One of the star dishes in the menu is the stew from the mountains, a hearty dish that cooks used to serve directly from the stewpot. In Arantza, however, every ingredient in the stew -vegetables and meat- is served separately and elegantly.

But Arantza's key to success is culinary innovation and avant-garde creations. Customers can thus savour fried eggs with lobster and wash them down with a very good wine from the establishment's cellar.

The restaurant's location opposite the yacht club, the cosy décor and the small outdoor dining area make Arantza one of the nicest and most peaceful restaurants in the Benalmádena marina area. Bon appétit!

Mijas: The charm of ocean and mountains by office Comment (0)

The village rises like a white lookout watching over the sea, from Sierra de Mijas to the Mediterranean Sea.

mijas_g

Mijas's tourism development on the coast hasn't been an obstacle to keeping traditional features in the urban centre. The old town is located 8km inland from the coastline. You can travel back in time taking a donkey-taxi to reach the white Chapel del Puerto or admire the amazingly irregularly-shaped Bullring.

The history of Mijas is linked to different conquests that have left their marks in the municipality's architecture: the Church of Inmaculada Concepción (sixteenth century), built on the ruins of an old Muslim castle and featuring a tower in the Mozarabic style. Also, there are two Mudéjar churches; the shrine of Virgen de la Peña, the local patroness; many chapels; the walls, and four towers: Calahorra -the lonely tower-, Nueva and Batería, in Cala del Moral, and Calaburra.

Mijas's coastline is made by almost 12km of small coves and pretty beaches like Faro, Charcón, Butiplaya, Calahonda, etc., where visitors can engage in all sorts of water sports. On the beach, they can relax at a "chiringuito" or beach bar, and have a "salmorejo" or a wide variety of deep-fried fish.

The Davis Cup comes to Marbella by office Comment (0)

The Davis Cup quarterfinal, pitting Spain against Germany, will take place from July 10 to 12.

copa_davis_g

Marbella has been chosen by the Spanish Royal Tennis Federation to host the quarterfinal of the Davis Cup, during which Spain and Germany will be coming face to face. So July 10 to 12 will be a fantastic weekend for tennis lovers in Málaga.

The venue will be the bullring at Puerto Banús, whose stands sit 11,000 spectators. Three-day tickets are 104.70 to 310.50 euros, depending on the seat.

According to Spanish coach Albert Costa, Marbella complies with all Davis Cup requirements, since it's a city at sea level and has clay courts.

Marbella -which has been awarded the title of European City of Sport 2009- beat the other two candidates, namely, Zaragoza and El Puerto de Santa María.
